The availability of low cost river transportation has a beneficial impact on
the economic development of northwest Arkansas. The predominant cargo is steel,
including coiled plate, coiled wire rod, and bars.

Little Rock
More than 2344 employees work in 39 industries located in the Port Industrial
Park. The Port Industrial Harbor is a long slackwater harbor with frontage
available for industrial development. The Port operates a railroad which
switches approximately 5500 cars per year, and connects to the Union Pacific and
Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroads. I-440 links the area to I-30 and I-40.

Pine Bluff
The Port of Pine Bluff's Harbor Industrial District has attracted capital investments of more than $97 million. There are more than 815 workers employed by river-related companies in the riverfront industrial park. The Port owns a twenty acre public river terminal complex. Rail service is provided by Burlington Northern Sante Fe and Union Pacific. The port also services the Jefferson Industrial Park.
